I would say that you should come check us out on one of our night shifts and see for yourself what kind of emphasis we place on activity in our private dance area. Unless, that is, the thought of dance specials running back to back to back to back is somehow unappealing to you. Actually, we started selling less dances because the girls started skipping out to go work at any one of the other topless places on earth that charge a minimum $20 dance. Finally we relented, put the price back to $20, and almost immediately business started to improve. I know that flies in the face of your thinking on this, but it is true, and we learned a valuable lesson from it: Value pricing the dances in a topless club is counterproductive, and may even be bad for business. Your product is alcohol sales and you want the money spent on that product. Makes sense to me. No doubt higher dance prices keeps the customers more interested in buying drinks for themselves and have the strippers sit down to talk and join in for a drink. I won't lie, dudes do learn how to make bar strippers wait until the dance specials until the girls leave to try their lucky with another customer. But the other customer is going 2 first want her to stick around until the next special cause he wants to do the same, wait. It's all a cat and mouse game. Hey, if CGA has a $3 drink night why not on a different night have an all night 2 for $20 dance special with as many in a row $20 for 2 dances. It can't hurt can it ? Even if the club takes $5 from the $20 price it leaves the girls $15 (7.50 net per dance). I've heard girls from Imperial say for every 5 for $50 they get to keep $35 ($7 net per dance). Why not wet ISGA dancer's appetite to work here while that club is undergoing the remodeling !?!?. It wouldn't hurt would it if some of the ISGA girls over 21 come here to work a night or two and brought over their customers. Who knows maybe the new Vegas style fancy Venetian bar on State College/91 fwy makes that market grab first. Oh yeah, something else. If CGA dancers are permitted to decide on their own if they'll charge $20 per bikini dance for a BF/GF couple instead of the club's policy of charging double to $40 then why not also let them decide when they will do 2-4-1's for individuals or can they already do that if they want ? Date: 8/5/2010 5:18am Name: CGManager (423) Subject: Pricing Not to keep beating this dead horse, but you've sort of jumped tracks to an issue I hear now and again; the idea that we are somehow overpricing dances. Here is the deal, a nude club, and a topless club with alcohol appear to be the same thing because they are both "strip clubs", however, they are completely different animals. A nude club has nothing except dances to offer, therefore the only thing it has to compete with is it's dance pricing. Yes, the quantity and quality of girls is certainly important, yet nude club customers are value minded, they want the most for the least (I dare you to deny it, lol), and won't regularly patronize a club with high pricing, even if it has a large number of hot girls. Therefore step one in nude club operation is "Low Dance Pricing", which brings in customers who then attract girls. Girls attract more customers which then attracts better girls leading to high volume in the dance area and a lot of money changing hands. The club then charges a high entrance at the door, has high priced drinks that you must buy, and socks the girls hard with fees. This is how it's done. A topless club with a full bar on the other hand operates on entirely different principles. This sort of club isn't selling dances per se, it's actually offering more of a party atmosphere, like a nightclub that comes complete with girls for the guests to play with. Matter of fact it's not like that, it is that. More attention is paid to people sitting around drinking, partying, and stage watching than anything else. In certain respects, the dance area is somewhat secondary in the sense that it's just one part of a larger operation. Another difference is in the girls, almost all of which are nude club veterans since that's where most girls get their start. They are now older, more experienced, and usually know that there are a lot of ways to make money, and grinding it out in the dance area is just one of them. They also know that people who come into bars are focused on drinking, even if they are selecting a strip club as their bar of choice. After all, if you don't want to drink, why not just go to one of the nude clubs and look at fresh 18 year old girls all night? Since the girls know the guys are there mainly to drink, they also know that it's going to be harder to get dances at any price. We know this specifically at CGA because we tried $10 dances and it did not increase dance volume at all. Because of this, topless girls almost always demand a minimum $20 dance, or they'll go to another club. In this way, the dancers can make up in price what they will lose in volume. It's pretty simple economics, and it pertains to every alcohol club I've ever been in. It's not just here either, some alcohol spots in LA are getting $30 per dance, and I toured some clubs in Illinois recently that were charging $40. Seriously, $40 in the rural Midwest, go figure. A lap dance is a single product just like a beer. Now it may get repackaged and sold in bundles of 2 or more like beer gets bundled at a bar and sold in a bucket. Comparing a stripper's 2.5 minute $20 dance is way different than a $12 seat for a 2 hr movie or a $100 ticket for a seat at a 3 hr concert or a $100 all day pass to Disneyland. We know why bar prices are higher for dances and manipuate the dances so they are rationed out. It's no secret that OC bars make it up to $20 per dance to lure girls to come work but the girls find out that $20 bills don't grow on trees and they only manage to get a dance or two here or there instead of constantly being busy. The bars don't want the girls being too busy doing dances. The bars know dudes turn to plab B. By pricing dances double what they should really be it gets dudes to spend on drinks and on getting the strippers drunk instead spending for the $20 dances. Dance money goes to the strippers and not into the cash register selling drinks. The bar knows it has to get around to creating some business for the dancers by doing some 2-4-1's or the strippers eventually quit if the don't make money than they can on a regular job. The stippers that thought dudes were going be buying $20 dances all the time learn they have to adapt to the system because even at $20 per 2-4-1 that is damn good money for 5 minutes. Now if this bar has some vip room booths at least 4 feet wide then maybe a couple (BF/GF) could justify spending double the amount by each person getting a girl during the 2-4-1 specials. A discrete product like a beer doesn't make a good comparison. Of course you wouldn't get charged for two beers. Same would be true of splitting a meal with a friend or anything else like that. By this logic, however, you and your buddy (or girlfriend or whatever) should be able to buy just one ticket for a concert because you're willing to share a seat, or only pay one admission to Disneyland because one of you won't actually be going on the rides. Again though, we let the girls make that determination as long as they communicate with us about it. This mainly happens with a girl handling a male/female couple as I noted before, but will often manifest also during 2 For 1 dance specials. In that case what we normally get is a guy wanting two dancers but only wanting to pay the single dancer/single song price. What they'll do is take two girls down for the special and only stay for one song. So that's another way to view 2 For 1s, its either one dancer for two songs, or two dancers for one song...either way it's two for one. Instead of your "think of it as going to a movie", think of it this way: What if my friend orders a bottle of beer of a new brand that she & I want to sample and request 2 glasses and pours 1/2 into each. It'd really be F'd up if the CGA Waitress were to charge us for 2 beers instead of 1 ! That's that way couples see the double charging of dance prices no matter how clubs attempt to sugar coat it. It's one lap dance not two performances. With that said, it's good to read that some of the dancers make their own call. The ones that realize it's one dance they are doing and if they were to charge double they might not sell the first one to begin with. Oh, Informant317 the idea of getting a 2 dancers can work great at clubs that have big lap dance booths. I had a version of that at Imperial 4 yrs ago when the dance ticket was $40 for 4 dances and $10 more for each next dance. A female friend couldn't make up her mind which girl and didn't want to go alone into the vip room. We got 2 girls and a $40 ticket for each one and we sat in a wide booth which faced away from the main entrance of the vip room. The plan was that after 2 dances we'd switch girls for the last 2 dances. After the first dance the strippers were crawling all over themselves and us...it was like an orgy. My friend used that chance to reach over and did some nascar, she must of thought I would't know it was her hand mixed in with the others. I had noticed a strippers hand going into my friends shirt and when the timing was right I reached over and had some hooter fun while she was making out with one of the dancers and had her eyes closed. I know she could tell it was me but we never talked about it other than to just grin of a wow fun night. We went 2 dances over by choice, 6 dances each. It doesn't matter how many people are sitting in the theater, the content of the film remains the same. Yet none of us object to the idea that the theater has the right to charge you to come in and watch the film. Since a dance can, in this case, be loosely defined as a private performance given by an exotic dancer to another person for a set price, then it follows that a "dance" is one dancer, one customer. If you have two dancers performing for one customer, then it is reasonable to assume that each girl is giving a dance, therefore each of them deserve to be paid the full dance price. If on the other hand, you have two customers, and one dancer, then it is reasonable to presume that the dancer is actually performing two dances simultaneously, therefore she is owed for the performance of two dances. This is not some pretty nicety that lets us unreasonably charge more, it is the reality. A dance is one dancer, one customer, any alteration to that situation is actually changing how many dances that are actually being given, and thus requires different compensation. I'm sure that if you were a dancer (or if your wife or girlfriend were) you would most certainly agree, lol. Now, having said that, I reiterate that we allow the dancers to make that decision on their own, if they feel that a second party should be included at no extra charge, then so be it. Before you go get your best buddy to come sit on your lap during the dance and go Dutch on the price with you though, I would warn that the dancers pretty much only do that with real, hetero couples. As in a guest and his wife/girlfriend. And yes, the girls do make that call quite often since we get a fairly significant number of couples here. As for the couples thing, I'll give you a two part answer: The official policy is that the set dance price reflects one dancer, once guest. Any changes to that ratio increases the price. so, 1 dancer and 2 guests in the regular room would be $40 per song, as would 2 dancers and 1 guest. Unofficially however, the dancers are all adults and are allowed to make that decision on their own as long as they inform the dance counter.
